City council to discuss sidewalk maintenance

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta City Council will hold a forum on Atlanta sidewalk maintenance on Tuesday evening from 6:30 until 8 p.m.

City council members, along with Public Works Commissioner Richard Mendoza and the President and CEO of PEDS will engage in a panel discussion at the City of Atlanta Council Chambers.

PEDS is a nonprofit, member-based advocacy organization dedicated to making metro Atlanta safe and accessible for all pedestrians.

"I appreciate the opportunity to join my colleagues on tonight's panel," said Councilmember Kwanza Hall. "As the author of the City's recently approved sidewalk trust fund legislation and the Council advocate for our new "complete streets" guidelines, I look to PEDS for continued leadership, advice, and counsel."

The cities of Alpharetta, Decatur, East Point, Lawrenceville, Marietta and Roswell all use local tax funds to pay for sidewalk maintenance. Outside the Atlanta area, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago and Washington D.C. do the same.
